Adam and Eve, the serpent, an apple split in two, paradise lost, peace compromised.
It was an image of “marital breakdown”, paying homage to Scola, which prompted this edition - like the preceding ones - to tackle highly explosive topical issues and challenges.
The title “We all loved each other so much. Religions and gender relationships” sums up the 2016 programme, continuing a line of investigation which has always been at the heart of the Festival. A theme which the Festival has always dedicated at least one section to, namely the portrayal of women and the female condition in different religious contexts.
Now it is high time we devoted our full attention to these aspects, in a moment when the news is full of tragic episodes of violence against women, and our society is increasingly questioning itself over gender issues.
